GraniteShares Gold Trust is engaged in owning gold transferred to Co. in exchange for shares issued by Co. (Shares). Each Share represents a fractional undivided beneficial interest in and ownership of Co. The assets of Co. are to consist solely of gold bullion. The objective of Co. is for the value of the Shares to reflect, at any given time, the value of the assets owned by Co. at that time less Co.'s accrued expenses and liabilities as of that time. The Shares are intended to constitute a means of making an investment similar to an investment in gold. According to our BAR split history records, Graniteshares Gold Trust has had 1 split.

Graniteshares Gold Trust (BAR) has 1 split in our BAR split history database. The split for BAR took place on March 11, 2019. This was a 10 for 1 split, meaning for each share of BAR owned pre-split, the shareholder now owned 10 shares. For example, a 1000 share position pre-split, became a 10000 share position following the split.

When a company such as Graniteshares Gold Trust splits its shares, the market capitalization before and after the split takes place remains stable, meaning the shareholder now owns more shares but each are valued at a lower price per share. Often, however, a lower priced stock on a per-share basis can attract a wider range of buyers. If that increased demand causes the share price to appreciate, then the total market capitalization rises post-split. This does not always happen, however, often depending on the underlying fundamentals of the business.

Looking at the BAR split history from start to finish, an original position size of 1000 shares would have turned into 10000 today. Below, we examine the compound annual growth rate — CAGR for short — of an investment into Graniteshares Gold Trust shares, starting with a $10,000 purchase of BAR, presented on a split-history-adjusted basis factoring in the complete BAR split history.
